Dear Friends,
What happened to summer in Northern Michigan this year? That is the question being bantered about by both locals and tourists with chattering teeth. Looking at the weather records for the past three months, it appears summer visited the week of June 21st, when we had two days in the 90's (the only two days this summer). Couple that with sunshine fewer than 50% of those days, and you understand why everyone is in a funk. The mean temperature for June, July and August was a balmy 63.3 degrees. This is the first summer I can remember where we had our furnace on at least one day each month! We are all hoping that Mother Nature will average things out with an Indian Summer in September and October. Those of us with kids playing football, soccer, running cross country or any other outside sport always appreciate nice fall weather!
September and October are also harvest months for cranberries and the perfect time to introduce our newest softgel capsules, Great Lakes Cranberry. The Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry published results of a United States Department of Agriculture research study that measured the antioxidant capacity of 100 common foods, including fruits, vegetables, nuts, dried fruits, spices, cereals, infant food and others. The research found cranberries to be one of the highest sources of antioxidants from all the foods tested.
Cranberries have been consumed for decades because of their unique health properties, including:
- Supporting Healthy Urinary Tract Function*
- Helping Maintain Healthy Cardiovascular Function*
- Containing naturally-occurring antioxidants
We are pleased to be able to offer Great Lakes Cranberry Softgels at a special price of only $15.95 per 60 count bottle.

With the last holiday weekend of the summer approaching, my family will be heading to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula again this year. Spending time at the cabin with gas lights, a gas refrigerator, an outhouse and a shower bag is a real adventure. Fishing the stream, shooting skeet, playing horseshoes and croquet, and watching the stars by the campfire brings the family together better than any trip to a stuffy resort. No cell phones, no laptops, no television - just clean air, bright skies and the sound of brook trout breaking the surface. Life is good!
My best,
