We heard from Appalachian Trail hiker, Zach Dorvinen, and the 18 year-old is making good progress on his quest up the Eastern US pathway. • Observation: How nice people are. I got sick right before I came home and a couple of trail buddies rented a room for us all so I could recover there rather than in the woods in the middle of nowhere. A stranger let me stay in his garage at no charge until I felt better.
• My dog won’t be going back on the trail, but he completed a respectable 1,100 miles with me.
• Most hikers are 24 to 40 years old and it’s pretty even with just slightly more guys than women making the trip. Some of the hikers are employed, but others quit their jobs so they could have the time off to hike the A-Trail….like the FBI agent I met.
• Every hiker has a trail name. Mine is “Thud.” I was given the name by my trail buddies the first two weeks because I did not lift my feet up enough and made a thud with every step I took.
• I just got my second pair of Asolo boots … probably should have gotten new ones 200 miles ago.

Zach says some days he wants to do this again and, other days, not.
