The timing couldn’t be better either, as another study has just been released, and it’s yet another affirmation that Wild Blueberries are, indeed, a Superfruit! The additional scientific findings – this time from researchers at Cornell University – confirms that Wild Blueberries have a greater antioxidant content than many common fruits such as apples, bananas and red grapes.

Appearing in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, study results found that Wild Blueberries performed well in new tests measuring their cellular antioxidant activity. The fruit had already been rated among the top 10 power foods for its naturally-occurring phytonutrient levels.

If you haven’t tasted FruitFast Dried Wild Blueberries, you don’t know what you are missing. These small berries are bursting with flavor, and are perfect for use in salads, sauces, baked goods, smoothies, pancakes and waffles, or when eaten right out of the bag as a snack.

While on the topic of our wild berries, you have a choice of how to obtain their healthful properties: we offer our premium Grade A Wild Blueberries in juice concentrate form, Wild Blueberry IQ Softgels and Wild Blueberry Fruit Supplement Bars. You’ll also find them in our MixedBerry Liquid Fruit Supplement.

With these healthy choices, you can’t go wrong.

Color Your Day

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

Never has the old saying “you are what you eat” been more on target than today. Rising obesity rates in our young people, the early onset of age-related conditions to stress and changing sleep patterns all point to what we are consuming.

Dr. David Heber, MD, PhD, University California – Los Angeles Center for Human Nature is the author of the popular book: What Color Is Your Diet? He takes a swipe at the evolution from our ancestor’s diverse colorful plant-based diet from dozens of sources to one that he calls the industrialized world’s colorless diet of meat, potatoes and highly processed foods.

Over the past 100 years, the typical American diet has changed dramatically. The large variety of foods we used to enjoy has diminished to just a few, such as potatoes, apples and wheat. Dr. Heber contends we are “eating more unhealthy foods in larger amounts because it’s cheaper and the easiest way to eat.”

Actually, nutrient-rich berries, fruits and vegetables are more available than ever, so it all comes down to choice and putting a price on your health.

Research confirms a colorful diet of plant foods fortifies the body with nutrients and antioxidants, while the brown-white diet of burger, potatoes and bleached processed foods leave our bodies under-nourished and vulnerable.

According to Paul M Gross, MD, in an article he wrote quoting Dr. Heber on the healthy dark-skinned fruits and berries – which, by the way, are found in all FruitFast products – here are the better food choices;

Eat …

  • yellow corn instead of white
  • sweet potatoes instead of russetts
  • pink grapefruit instead of white
  • romaine lettuce instead of iceberg
  • cabernet wine instead of chardonnay
  • Guinness instead of Bud!
  • brown rice instead of white
  • baked potatoes with the skin intact instead of fries
  • real fruit instead of Skittles!
  • in short, try to eat berries and other colorful whole foods each day!

Dr. Heber said: “It doesn’t really matter if you get something from every color group each day; just eat as wide a variety of colored foods as possible and try to get the recommended 5-9 daily servings of colorful produce. Berries are an easy way of getting these pigments. Of course, the more fruit and vegetables you eat, the more of these crucial compounds like pigment anthocyanins you’ll absorb.”

So take a page out of Dr. Heber’s book: “When you consider the impact on lifestyle and the high cost of treating illnesses that could be avoided by eating more colorful and nutritious foods, the public needs to make changes for healthier living.”
